of the contribution of Guru Nanak De Ji to Sikhism.
Ans: Guru Nanak Dev Ji undertook 3
long travels in various parts of the world to spread awareness among people. He
favoured the equality of woman to man. He preached against the evils prevalent
in society. He established the institution of Sangat and Pangat. He preached the
people the virtues of hard work, sharing and meditation. He opposed the tyranny
of Mughal ruler Babur.

teaching?

Kirat Karo: (Honest earning) Honest
earning is the Hukam of Almighty. Every human should make his earning through
hard and honest work.
Nam Japo: (Recitation of God’s
Name) The concept of Nam Japo has highest place in Sikhism. According to
Gurbani, by reciting the name of God all the evils from one’s mind get remove
and it becomes pure. Nam vanishes all the sorrows and illusions of man.
Vand Chhako: (Sharing) Guru Nanak
Dev Ji preached sharing in Sikhism. In Sikhism the concept of eating after sharing
is followed. It increases the feeling of universal brotherhood.
15) Guru Nanak Dev Ji
was a great poet and musician. Explain.
Ans: Guru Nanak Dev Ji was not only a
religious saint but a great poet and musician also. He composed 976 hymns.
Through his hymns, Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught very complex concepts to the people
in a very simple way. Guru Ji started the tradition of Kirtan. In Kirtan, he
took the help of music to spread his views to folks. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was well
versed with a number of Ragas. His music had deep impact on the minds of the
listeners.
16) How far were the
teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji different from the other Bhakti Reformers?
Ans: A number of Bhakti saints regard
Shri Krishna and Shri Rama as the incarnations of God but Guru Nanak Dev Ji
preached that God is formless. Guru Nanak Dev Ji condemned idol worship while a
number of Bhakti saints favoured it. Many saints considered the married life as
a hurdle in the way of salvation but Guru Nanak Dev Ji believed in married
life. He founded two great institutions of Sangat and Pangat while the Bhakti
preachers did not set up any such institution.

Ans: In 1521 AD, Guru Nanak Dev Ji
established a town named Kartarpur Sahib at the bank of river Ravi. At
Kartarpur Sahib he spent last 18 years of his life. He established the
institution of Sangat and Pangat at Kartarpur Sahib. These institutions proved
a boon aginst caste system and untouchablity. Guru Nanak Dev Ji composed 976
hymns while his stay at Kartarpur Sahib.
